I Switched from Apple to Android

I have been a loyal iPhone user for many years. I have suffered the jibes of Android users with aplomb, knowing my needs were being met by Apple.

However, it was time for an upgrade. My battery performance plummeted, and apps, including the telephone app itself, would freeze occasionally.

Serendipity struck. Several months ago, my son lost his Android on an airplane in Newark. He replaced his phone, and about three months later United found his Android in Houston! One shipping fee later I had an Android to try out, the Pixel XL.

I found the interface unfamiliar and awkward . . . for about twenty minutes.

Then amazing things started to happen. The phone asked me, unprompted, if I wanted to consolidate contacts. I had tried to do that without success for years! In under five minutes, Google eliminated my duplicate contacts.

Texting was quickly replaced with swipe-typing. Love it!

I downloaded a lecture, hit play, and listened. This was impossible on the iPhone. I couldn’t even load that file into iTunes.

The predictive typing is amazingly on point. And just a bit spooky.

Despite my comfort level with all things technical, I hesitated to switch from an iPhone. I can now say that hesitation was unwarranted.
